STill, I'm glad some filmmakers are attempting to shock still....I mean, shock cinema is a part of movies that I love, which is sadly missing today. Awesome review! I'd pay to see it again, though. I think KNOCK KNOCK comes out here next month. Sounds like it's a remake of DEATH GAME from 1977.venoms5https://www.blogger.com/profile/13655919099947763891noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467807781586384838.post-65055219447910753212015-09-28T02:08:11.754-07:002015-09-28T02:08:11.754-07:00Insert me rolling on the floor in excitement* YES!...Insert me rolling on the floor in excitement* YES! There is even a petition to stop the movie--which funnily enough, reinforces the sort of false moral outrage that plays a major role in the movie. I totally agree with the last part of your response. You don't have to go halfway around the world to experience barbarism or act uncivilized to the point of being labeled a savage.

@ Aylmer: Yeah, I put a disclaimer in there in the comparison portion of the write-up although I don't give away the scene after the credits begin to roll. Personally, I thought it was going to end differently than it did, but the theatrical ending leaves it open for a sequel. It's definitely gory, Aylmer, only it doesn't go into the extreme territory the Italian films did. I don't think they could get away with graphic castrations and DIY abortion scenes. The first cannibal sequence is graphic in its depiction, more so than I expected for an R rating, but these scenes aren't anything you haven't seen before. HOSTEL 2 had creativity in its gore set-pieces, ie the Bathory sequence for example. There's a scene in GREEN INFERNO where a character gets torn to pieces; this is equatable to the same type of thing in any of the dozens of zombie movies out there. The guy at the ticket counter was telling me and my friend who went with me it was the most disgusting thing he'd ever seen in his life; which, to somebody not familiar with the previous films, is understandable. So there's plenty of blood and guts just not much you haven't seen before. The only major complaint I had was the intrusive comical bits.venoms5https://www.blogger.com/profile/13655919099947763891noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467807781586384838.post-91112087109112884862015-09-27T18:33:12.896-07:002015-09-27T18:33:12.896-07:00Really pleased to see a positive review from you h...Really pleased to see a positive review from you here. Coming from you this holds more weight than all the mainstream reviews combined. I skimmed a bit because I'm trying to stay as unspoiled as possible, but I'll definitely be back for a reread after finally getting a chance to see it (which looks like a one-off screening here in Sydney in mid November as Australia isn't getting a theatrical release). Slightly disappointed to hear that the gore doesn't go as far as you'd hoped. Is it really a bit tame? How would you compare the impact of the violence and gore to Hostel part II for example?Aylmerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14516338168860158163noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467807781586384838.post-15063770053133115032015-09-27T16:57:09.263-07:002015-09-27T16:57:09.263-07:00I've been waiting for something like an expert...I've been waiting for something like an expert opinion before deciding whether to see this on the big screen and I appreciate yours. A third-world cannibal movie was bound to get grief from reviewers but the genre has always struck me as essentially cynical rather than conservative in any meaningful sense, and people who against all evidence deny barbarism in the world deserve non-partisan satire.Samuel Wilsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00934870299522899944noreply@blogger.com
