And the score is ace, too.

@ Fran: Seeing this one it makes me wonder what Fulci could have done with a horror picture that had a somewhat generous budget and production schedule to go with it. Interestingly, I had interviewed John Morghen some time back and he told me these Italian horror pictures didn't do very well financially in Italy, but everywhere else in the world wanted them.

@ D: I feel the same about Jess Franco. I can't figure for the life of me why he has the clutch of fans that he does. Still, I'd say the cult of Fulci far exceeds Franco's.

@ Hero: Totally agree about the atmosphere. If Fulci truly intended to make a movie with a surrealist sensibility he mostly succeeded. I really have an appreciation for ZOMBIE, his other horror film I'm very fond of.

@ Maynard: Thanks, my friend!venoms5https://www.blogger.com/profile/13655919099947763891noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467807781586384838.post-42972600449751214672011-05-06T22:20:14.839-07:002011-05-06T22:20:14.839-07:00Excellent review of an excellent movie!!Excellent review of an excellent movie!!Maynard Morrisseyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00484689288762406307noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467807781586384838.post-47605527809220491892011-05-04T03:38:11.138-07:002011-05-04T03:38:11.138-07:00Great review, personally I love this film but it&#...Great review, personally I love this film but it's easy to see why people wouldn't and Fulci in general. I like the gore in it but the thing that makes The Beyond so good is the doom laden atmosphere, the feel of it is so unique.A hero never dieshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13075070081480449104noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467807781586384838.post-20593857875024387962011-05-03T22:00:36.440-07:002011-05-03T22:00:36.440-07:00I've tried really hard to like Fulci's wor...I've tried really hard to like Fulci's work but it just doesn't do it for me. But as you mentioned, this quality of Fulci's films is best illustrated in House by the Cemetary, to me it's still one of his most incomprehensible films.

The Beyond is my top favorite of his films, as you mentioned, its that atmosphere, that feeling of dread, that music...and the unrelenting gore! The scene with the little girl getting blow to bits is so shocking, even if it looks a bit fake....it still shocks!

The ending with the guy shooting the zombies everywhere but in the head...always makes me want to take the gun away from him and shoot the zombies myself!

Love the musical score, that music thats playing as they enter hell...awesome in deed!

Great review dude.Franco Macabrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10994905312221715861noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467807781586384838.post-47061418529976820042011-05-03T13:44:53.454-07:002011-05-03T13:44:53.454-07:00Excellent and thorough review.
